Isuzu JT 1700CC SOHC Turbo Diesel Sedan |
1990-1994 Production Cars. Re-manufactured in Australia.. |
Suspension: The front is an "A section" with MacPherson Strut type top mountings. The rear is a properly located adjustable multi link design with combined Coil Spring / Damper units and is set to provide Passive 4 Wheel Steering on all models. Both ends have Stabiliser bars to improve body roll and to improve traction. |

Engine: The SOHC 1700 engine is an Isuzu design. It is a completely new design - specially for cars - featuring a large Oil Cooler, a belt driven SOHC, and a large Turbo Charger with a front mounted Inter-Cooler. Both the Oil Cooler and the Inter-Cooler are vented directly through the lower front Bumper skirt. |
Brakes: The front has ventilated discs with single piston fully floating callipers. The rear has solid discs again with fully floating callipers. The handbrake operates on the rear discs. The Brake Master is a split / tandem vacuum boosted unit with a proportioning valve. The Braking effort required is low but powerful and proportional. ABS braking is an option. Transmission: The Manual 5 speed Isuzu transmission is precise and is coupled with a smooth cable operated clutch. It is a delight to use. The 4 speed Jatco Automatic has a computer controlled lock up 4th gear for efficiency. It has 3 modes of operation by push button selection. Economy mode for everyday use. Power / Sports mode allows the engine to reach much higher maximums in the intermediate gears and allows the driver to change to a lower ratio instinctively as required by simply increasing accelerator pressure. With a little experience it is possible to change down either one or two ratios as required. Manual mode allows the driver to change gears up and down at the required points through all 4 gears by using the T Bar in the manner of a sequential motor cycle change. Full use of the Engine Red Line Limit is possible in this mode. |
